When Christen and Carter first met, the timing wasn’t exactly ideal—but that didn’t stop Christen from noticing him right away. After a few months (and a fair bit of friendly chasing on her part), Carter finally gave in. By midsummer, the two were inseparable, and the rest is history.

Carter escorted Christen to her grade 12 graduation, and by then their love was undeniable. To celebrate their one-year anniversary (and the big day), Carter gifted her a promise ring — the sweetest symbol of the future they both secretly knew was coming.

Soon after, they took the next big step — moving in together (with a roommate). Even though they’d both lived with Christen's parents before, sharing a space of their own was a whole new adventure. They learned a lot about each other, made countless memories, and realized that “adulting” was a little easier when they were doing it together.

After many cozy holidays spent with family, they finally got the keys to their very own home — and celebrated their first Christmas there with just the two of them and their sweet fur baby, Letti. It was the beginning of a new chapter, filled with love, laughter, and way too many trips to Home Depot.

By this point, they’d attended more weddings together than they could count. Christen had perfected her bouquet-catching form, and the hints were becoming very obvious. Carter, of course, played it cool… or at least tried to.

Deciding it was time to expand their little family, they started trying for a baby — this time, a human one. Took them longer than they anticipated, but when Christen finally got her first positive test, she could hardly keep the secret long enough to surprise Carter.

When they finally announced their pregnancy to immediate family members and close friends, everybody was beyond excited to be welcoming another little one to the world.

The big reveal came during their backyard gender reveal party — a baby girl! Shocked but thrilled, Christen and Carter couldn’t wait to meet her. The excitement was overwhelming and they couldn't wait to become parents.

The pregnancy was blissfully complication-free, though the nerves definitely kicked in as the due date got closer. Together, they poured their hearts into creating Christen’s dream nursery — and stocked up on all things pink, sparkly, floral, and perfectly girly.

The day after her due date, after being induced, Christen brought their baby girl, Addisyn Joyce Roddy, into the world at 12:16 p.m. The new parents were overjoyed — exhausted, sure, but ready for every sleepless, love-filled moment ahead.

They experienced so many firsts together all over again, including their first family photoshoot, and little Addisyn absolutely nailed it. Parenting came naturally to them — most days, anyway.

Next up, their first family vacation, to Alberta, visiting the Calgary Zoo, Banff, and Iron Mills Mall. Turns out, Addisyn was a pro traveler!

As Addisyn grew, time seemed to fly. They had been trying for baby #2 for over a year at this point and decided to reach out for help, unknowingly embarking on a long fertility journey.

After trying for baby number two for over two years, they were overjoyed to finally see another positive test. Sadly, just a few short weeks later, that pregnancy ended in miscarriage. The loss was devastating — but through it all, they leaned on each other and held tight to hope for brighter days ahead.

Things were gloomy but then came the trip of a lifetime — a Christmas gift from Christen to Carter: Vancouver, their favourite NHL team, and the Love Lights Festival at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Between Carter’s jokes about “maybe one day” and the twinkling lights, Christen never saw it coming — until he got down on one knee under the biggest, brightest tree in the park. It was pure magic.

After one unsuccessful IUI, they tried again. In December 2024, they saw those long-awaited two pink lines — their first positive test since their loss. With nerves and hope in equal measure, they waited, prayed, and dreamed.

Although planned, this pregnancy took them by surprise, happily, it stuck! Wanting to keep the excitement going, they decided to wait until birth to find out the baby’s gender. It turned out to be such an incredible experience, and their little one stayed healthy and thriving the whole way through.
